Drobo storage arrays have always been designed with the user in mind. From the tool-less design that allows hard drives to be inserted without carriers or screws to the variable-speed cooling fans, the compact and quiet 8D was designed to work just as well on your desk as it does in an office environment. Users can also dim the lights and configure drives to spin down when not in use.
The Drobo 8D features Intelligent Volume Management, the flexibility of manual volume management and the convenience of automated volume management. Automated volume management allows for optimization of space allocation, maximizing storage resources. The 8D allows for the creation of 16 volumes with up to 128TB, with a total storage pool of 256TB.

Built on BeyondRAID technology with single or dual-drive redundancy, Drobo 8D protects your data without any user interaction. Drives can be added or replaced or hot-swapped in real time for storage expansion with zero downtime. If you’re running low on space, the lights on the front tell you what to do. Just add a drive in an empty slot or remove a smaller drive and replace it with a larger one.
Laptops and computers with Thunderbolt 2 ports will require a Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 adapter.
Power of Thunderbolt 3
Drobo 8D storage array offers a lightning fast Thunderbolt 3 connection (macOS only) that is both fast and backwards compatible. This optimizes your performance when transferring large volumes of data.
With the dual ports, the Drobo 8D connects up to six Thunderbolt devices or five devices and a monitor at the end of the chain. Supports one 5K or two 4K displays (with a Thunderbolt dock).

SSD Acceleration Boosts PerformanceThe Drobo 8D delivers both capacity and performance. The Drobo 8D gives you the option to enable Hot Data Caching through the Drobo Accelerator Bay on the rear slot. Using an SSD allows access to most frequently read data to deliver blazing fast speeds. This boosts performance of popular applications such as Apple Final Cut and Adobe Lightroom. SSDs can also be utilized in the front bays of the Drobo 8D for Data-Aware Tiering, allowing for transactional data to migrate to the SSDs. This ensures that both writes and reads are accelerated. |
Power Protecting Your Critical DataDrobo doesn’t just protect your critical data from drive failure, but also from power outages. The Drobo 8D includes a battery that protects all data that would otherwise be vulnerable in other systems. Should the power go out while using your Drobo, the battery will protect everything until the data is safe for it to be written to non-volatile storage (an internal SSD storage device). The battery recharges automatically and is designed to last for the entire life of the product. |
